History
Fifth Element is an independent Hip Hop retail store based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, founded in 1999. Beyond acting as the official Rhymesayers online and retail store, Fifth Element has also established itself over the years as one of the primary foundations for all your Hip Hop needs--CDs, Digital Sales, Vinyl, Art Supplies, Clothing, DVDs, Specialty Items, and more.
In 2005 we expanded by adding the online function of the store. Initially focused as the official online store for Rhymesayers products, over the years has slowly expanded the catalog to a wider range of products. With our most recent launch, we have extended that to include our full store inventory.
Along with the store upgrade we have also added, for current lack of a better word, a blog. However, this is much more than your typical blog. There will be in-depth interviews with artists dating back to the pioneers, up to the newest up and comers. There will also be album reviews, movie reviews, Hip Hop history, Graf, Community/Social/Political issues, a Cooking Show, Lyrical analyzing, and much more!
Our growth isn't limited to the online store. The retail store has been recently remodeled and is looking great. The store is soon to dual as an art space and host gallery openings. We are also becoming far more active with our store-hosted events, both inside and outside of the store.
Stay tuned, Grow with us. Independent since day one!

Phillip "Felipe Cuauhtli" Espinoza-Day
As a member of Los Nativos, Phil has been a part of Rhymesayers since the start. When Fifth Element opened its doors in 1999 he was there as one of the original employees. Taking time off to teach, as well as some touring, he returned to Fifth Element a year and a half ago as the General Manager, always keeping the original vision of Rhymesayers at heart. Taking a step back from music was a hard decision to make, but ultimately the strong desire to see Fifth Element grow made the decision easier.

He’s spent the last 7 years working as Product Manager for Rhymesayers Entertainment. He now enters the world of Fifth Element as the marketing manager and FE Blog editor. With this new position, he’ll be in charge of keeping the blog fresh with content, increasing the store's involvement in local and national events, and continuing to feed his hunger for Hip Hop knowledge and experiences.
