I first connected with X:144 via Scribble Jam. He was involved in our first Production Battle and eventually rose to become our first year champion. I was really impressed with his style, technique, energy, sound and attention to detail.
At that time, he also hit me off with one of his projects, X:144 & SPS-M.E., which not only flexed his skills as a producer and sound engineer, but also as an MC. I was so impressed with his talent, music, drive and determination that I decided to break a decade old vow to never get directly involved & focused on another artists career as a manager/advisor...too many previous bad experiences.
In any event, we connected and for the past few years we've have been working together to take his career to the next level. In that time, he's started work on a album that is sounding rather amazing already in it's early stages. He has produced remixes for Qwel & Maker, Solillaquists Of Sound, Blueprint, etc... His great ear and studio knowledge has lead to Mixing, Mastering, Editing and/or Production for MF Doom, Kool G Rap, Nino Bless, Joell Ortiz, Saigon, etc... Beyond that, over the last year, he also taught himself how to shoot, direct and edit music videos and is already delivering at a level that seems like he had years of formal training.
In short, X:144 is a natural talent. Finding someone like him is indeed a rarity. He most recently made a move to Egypt to build and run a recording studio. He had only fairly recently arrived when the protests erupted. He had been trapped in Cairo awaiting safe transportation for several days now. As I type this I received news that he landed safe in Turkey!
Here's a video detailing his situation as of earlier this week. It includes a phone conversation with X:144 (Maged Ragab) and an interview with his amazing girlfriend, Alexandra Vega, who has been working non-stop to arrange for his safe arrival home!
