Sometimes I get so caught up in my own world of work and wonder that I will miss something happening right next to me. Last week in preparation for the release of the "Shine On" music video from "The Bite Marked Heart" project, I heard the song and video playing thru out the office in the background while I did a variety of work stuff. It sounded good, but I only heard it in pieces. Brother Ali has always been an impressive writer and incredible presence on the mic, so I've grown to expect that. However, the tracks that I've been hearing lately have been rather ridiculous! First off, everything I heard from the upcoming album with Jake One, "Mourning In America And Dreaming In Color", have been top notch. That combined with his "Sweet Potato Pie" Recipe and the "Shine On" track, lead me to believe Brother Ali might be in a writing peak right now!
When I finally heard "Shine On" for the first time, via watching the video after it had premiered to the world, I was drawn into the great story-telling, sense of humor, and unique sensibilities presented in the twist-ending. The video nailed the concept perfectly, it feels like that IS the way to hear that song for the first time, that's what a music video should make you feel like.
Here are just a few days later and Brother Ali & Rhymesayers present to you "The Bite Marked Heart" project today! It features guest appearances from Phonte, Stokley Williams, Aby Wolf, and Nikki Jean, with production handled by Ant of Atmosphere and Jake One! Sounds intriguing... I still haven't heard it yet, I'm about to post this and then Download it for myself, so let's listen together... Ah, it's nice to still be a fan of Rap Music :)-Kevin Beacham
