If you didn't know, over the last year or so Fifth Element has been keeping our eyes, ears and communication open with many of our talented friends to bring you exclusive projects. In that time period we have released five great projects. They are all limited edition (a few are almost sold out!) and only $4.99!!
Since our last FE Exclusive project we took a short break so we could explore some new marketing options, including a new partnership with Copycats Media, and secure some more releases and now we are back in full effect!!! Up first is a project from two artists Fifth Element has a long history with; Abstract Rude & Musab.
Of course, Musab's connection to Fifth Element goes back before we existed, before Rhymesayers existed. In the early 90s Musab was better known by his then name, Beyond. If you were around that time then it is likely you may have seen him at some Hip Hop function or perhaps just roaming the streets with headphones and he was probably rhyming, he was always rhyming. He brought that raw energy with him as a part of the infamous Headshots collective and the result was him being very diligent about writing and recording new songs. As a result, when the time came for Headshots to transform into Rhymesayers, Beyond was the one most prepared to release an album, thus his debut "Comprehension" became the first official Rhymesayers full-length album. He followed that with the Underground Classic tape, "Beyond Be-sides" and eventually his impressive follow up album, "Respect The Life". Through each of those projects he showcased his diversity as an artist and proficiency as a writer. Here we are in 2012 and many of these attributes still ring true for Sab, he's still recording lots of music and continually exploring new sounds and styles.
As for Abstract Rude he sharpened his skills in the trenches of one of the greatest underground renaissance scenes in Hip Hop history, the Good Life/Project Blowed movement of the early to mid 90s. The influence of that movement was massively felt on a global scale and you can easily see it's effects on the late 90s/early 00s Twin Cities scene. The Good Lifers and Project Blowedians are a huge collective of amazing lyricists and stylists and particular MCs out of the pact have successfully continued to harness that raw energy, while simultaneously showcasing superb songwriting talents, industry survival skills and a relentless work ethic. In that, Abstract Rude is among the elite.
"The Awful Truth" is ten track project produced by Ganzobean (except the title track produced by Orikal Uno) that exists as a nice merging of both MCs styles. Immediately upon listening it occurs to you that this is a collaboration that may not have seemed obvious from a distance, but a closer look reveals it as a perfect combination. Both MCs share many similar strengths; great storytelling skills, the gift of accurately and vividly depicting real life experiences and a love for exhibiting a mastery over the written word. Additionally, one of Abstract Rude's key vocal attributes has always been him using his voice as melodic instrument and this presence is strongly noted on most songs on"The Awful Truth". This project is a representation of all these skills, with a backing of moody and vibe-filled tracks that range from good feeling to emotionally moving to inspirational. Vocally, Musab and Abstract Rude shine through out the project and as an added bonus they bring along some of their friends. Guest appearances include Slug (of Atmosphere), Blueprint, Toki Wright, Grouch, and a upcoming Las Vegas MC, Highdro.
