Afshin Shahidi collaborated with Prince longer than almost any other photographer: he met the artist in 1993 at Paisley Park on a music video shoot and eventually became his cinematographer and still photographer, capturing Prince in concert and at play, in highly styled settings and in candid situations. Shahidi was the photographer for the musician's legendary 3121 parties in Los Angeles as well as on the road with Prince in settings that ranged from Panama and Morocco, to London and Tokyo, to New York and Chanhassen, Minnesota.
Prince: A Private View arranges Shahidi's work into a visual journey through a decade of Prince's extraordinary life. Almost half of its more than 250 photos are seen for the first time in Shahidi's book; they display Prince's charm as well as his talent, featuring unguarded moments as well as the polished and produced images he used to promote his work.
