Never one to follow trends, Tokyo’s Southpaw Chop is a hip-hop DJ and producer in the truest sense, spinning only vinyl and sampling straight from the original wax. Chop has released countless Mix CDs, including the widely popular “Underground Railroad” series, which continues to influence the sales of classic hiphop in used record shops and sites around the world.
Chop made his production debut on DJ Krush’s 1999 release “Kakusei” under his real name “Hideo”. His first independent release was 2010’s “Never Stop Sampling” EP, featuring Large Professor on the single “Here We Go”, which was given the remix treatment by Large Professor himself in 2016. Chop has also collaborated with hip-hop greats including Kool G Rap, Craig G, A.G., and Steele from Smif-N-Wessun. Additionally he has produced domestic releases for some of Japan’s hottest MCs.
Southpaw Chop holds down a residency at one of the dopest hip-hop nights in Tokyo, the monthly “Classics” party at Shibuya Sound Museum Vision, and has spun alongside DJ Premier, Jazzy Jeff, DJ Krush, Evil Dee, Diamond D, DJ Scratch, and DJ Maseo, just to name a few.
